Internal Medicine:
Learn more about our full-service Independent Medical Examination Services nationwide in all specialties.
Internal Medicine is the medical specialty concerned with longterm comprehensive care of both common and complex conditions in adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Internists practice in both an office or hospital setting. Internal Medicine is a primary care speciaty incorporating disease prevention, wellness, substance abuse, and mental health. For independent medical examination purposes, often subspecialties, such as Cardiology and Pulmonology are requested more than Internal Medicine itself.
The American Board of Internal Medicine offers examinations for certification in the following subspecialties: Cardiovascular Disease; Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism; Gastroenterology; Hematology; Infectious Disease; Medical Oncology; Nephrology; Pulmonary Disease; and Rheumatology. Examinations for certificates of added qualifications are also offered in Adolescent Medicine; Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology; Critical Care Medicine; Clinical Laboratory Immunology; Geriatric Medicine; Interventional Cardiology; and Sports Medicine. For independent medical evaluations, Internal medicine itself is often chosen over one of the above where the examinee is treating with an internist, not a specialist.
Internal Medicine Training:
Before performing independent medical evaluations, an Internist should meet the following requirements: Credentialing should reveal training of 3 years with subspecialties requiring additional training and examination. After this, Board Certification and a vigorous ongoing private Internal medicine practice are necessary. As with any specialty considered for an independent medical exam, an internist should be licensed and in good standing as well.
Select Internal medicine subspecialty certifications:
Certification in one of the following subspecialties requires additional training and examination.
